From a sentence
to a shared expense.

  1. 1

Open the mic and speak naturally.

Say the payer, amount, currency, people, and any special split. For example: “I paid 90 US dollars for dinner with Maya and Noah, split equally.” Names should match the people in your Settl group.

  2. 2

    Check what Settl understood.

A clear, high-confidence entry can save automatically and offer Undo. If details are missing or unclear, Settl can ask a follow-up or show a review step. Check the amount, payer and shares before relying on the balance.

  3. 3

Keep the shared ledger up to date.

The expense contributes to the group’s balances. Correct an entry if the audio was misunderstood. You can also type an expense manually, or photograph a receipt and describe how to split it.

Uneven doesn’t have
to mean complicated.

“Noah had two bowls” is different from splitting equally. In the $80 ramen example above, assigning one share to You, one to Maya, and two to Noah gives $20, $20 and $40. Choose Unequal shares in the example to see it.

For itemized bills, use a receipt and a short instruction. For an existing group in another app, bring over its Splitwise CSV.

Connection, privacy,
and usage limits.

Voice requires an internet connection and cloud processing. The recording is sent to Settl’s processing service; the assigned provider can vary by configuration. See the provider disclosure for routing details. Manual expense entry does not need AI interpretation.

Language recognition can vary with pronunciation, noise and names. State the currency when it could be ambiguous and inspect the result. AI access is subject to current launch terms and usage limits.

A few useful answers.
