Connect once.
Keep your group in sync.
Settl provides a remote MCP connection. You need a Settl account and a ChatGPT client or workspace that supports the connection method below. This is a direct connection guide, not a claim that Settl is listed in ChatGPT’s public directory.

Choose the setup for your client.
ChatGPT desktop: open Settings → MCP servers → Add server. Name it Settl, choose Streamable HTTP, paste the URL above, and save. Restart if your client asks, then authenticate the connection.
ChatGPT web workspaces: supported Business, Enterprise and Edu workspaces use developer mode and Apps → Create. An admin or authorized developer supplies the endpoint, selects OAuth, scans the tools, and creates the app. Access and write permissions depend on your plan and workspace.
Follow the current desktop MCP documentation and web workspace requirements. If the setting is absent, check eligibility rather than pasting the URL into a normal chat.

Sign in and review the connection.
Follow the OAuth sign-in page. Review the requested access to your Settl account. You do not need to generate or paste a Settl API key. Enable write access only for the actions you want the assistant to take.
- 3
Start with a group you recognize.
Ask the assistant to list your Settl groups and check their members. Then give a complete expense: “In Weekend trip, I paid 90 US dollars for dinner with Maya and Noah, split equally.” Use your actual group and member names.

Read the result back.
Ask for recent expenses or balances and verify the saved amount, payer, currency and shares. A friendly confirmation is not enough on its own. Use Undo if a newly created expense is wrong.
Useful things to ask.
| Task | Example request |
|---|---|
| Find a group | “List my Settl groups and the members of Weekend trip.” |
| Log a shared expense | “I paid 90 USD for dinner with Maya and Noah in Weekend trip, equally.” |
| Check a balance | “What do Maya and I owe each other in Settl?” |
| Record an actual payback | “Maya paid me back 30 USD for Weekend trip.” |
| Correct a mistake | “Undo the dinner expense you just created.” |
Recording a payback updates the ledger. Settl does not move money between bank accounts. Unknown people may need to be added or selected before an expense can be recorded.
Keep control of the connection.
The documented default is ten AI turns per person per UTC day. Follow-up parsing can use another turn; it is not a promise of ten successfully saved expenses. Other tools, such as reading balances, do not use that AI allowance but remain subject to normal service limits. Read the limits.
To disconnect, open You → Connected apps in Settl and revoke the connection. For all supported agents and technical tool details, see the MCP reference.
A few useful answers.
Is typing the MCP URL into ChatGPT enough?
No. Add and authorize the connection using a supported client or workspace setup first.
Is this available on every ChatGPT plan?
No. Client support, developer mode and write capabilities vary. Check the linked OpenAI requirements for your account.
Can I use voice?
Use your assistant’s supported voice or dictation input where available. For Settl’s own microphone workflow on your phone, see the voice expense tracker guide.
Why can’t Settl find a person?
Ask the assistant to check group members. Confirm the correct person, or add a placeholder when appropriate. A name in a sentence is not permission to invite someone by email.
Keep going.
