Move a Splitwise group
in four steps.

Export your group as a CSV.
In Splitwise on your phone, open the group, scroll along the menu in its header, and choose Export. On the web, open the group, select the gear icon, and choose Export Spreadsheet. Save the CSV somewhere your phone can open, such as Files or Downloads.

Choose Import from Splitwise in Settl.
Open Settl and choose Import from Splitwise when starting a group or during onboarding. Select the exported CSV. If prompted, sign in to finish the import. The onboarding preview accepts CSV files up to 4 MB. Button labels and sign-in timing can differ during onboarding.

Name the group. Review the people.
Check the preview, enter a group name, and review the suggested member matches. Only link a name to a contact when you are sure it is the same person. Unmatched names can remain as placeholders and be invited later.

Import, then check the balances.
Tap Import group. Compare the imported expenses and balances with your CSV before settling up. Check each currency separately, and pay particular attention to expenses with multiple payers. Then invite the group to keep using the same ledger in Settl.

A small file you can check yourself.
In this fictional trip, You pay $300 for a hotel, Maya pays $90 for dinner, and Noah pays $30 for a taxi. Each expense is split equally. Noah then pays You back $50.

The remaining balances are You +$110, Maya −$50, Noah −$60. The $420 total counts the three expenses, not the payback.

Keep your original export. Invalid rows can be skipped, and importing the same file again can create another group. An import is a starting point to review, not a promise of exact parity for every CSV.
A few useful answers.
Will this change my Splitwise account?
No. Settl reads the CSV you upload. It does not write changes back to Splitwise.
Does everyone need to sign up first?
No. Names can remain as placeholders. Review matches carefully, then invite people when the group is ready.
What if the preview expires?
Upload the CSV again. An onboarding preview session lasts one hour; it does not save a group by itself.
Can I import multiple currencies?
Rows retain their currency. Compare balances currency by currency rather than treating a mixed-currency preview total as one converted amount.
