AI providers

Who your data goes to. Settl's voice, receipt-scan, and assistant features send the content you create with them to the third-party AI providers listed below, and only after you agree in-app. This is our current set. It may change as we improve the product, and this page is always kept up to date.

Settl is a voice-first expense splitter. When you tap the mic, scan a receipt, or ask the in-app assistant, some of your content is sent to commercial AI services to turn it into a structured expense. Expenses you type in by hand never reach any AI provider. Here is exactly who processes what.

Our current AI providers

Provider	Role	What it receives
Google (Gemini)	Language and vision	Your voice transcript and typed assistant requests (to parse into a structured expense and answer questions), and receipt images you photograph (to read the merchant, total, and currency).
Groq	Speech-to-text	The voice audio you record when you tap the mic, to transcribe it into text. The audio is discarded after transcription; only the transcript is kept.

The terms they are bound by

Each provider is on a paid commercial tier under a data-processing agreement that:

prohibits using your data to train AI models, theirs or anyone else's;
prohibits using your data for any purpose other than returning your result;
requires protections for your data equivalent to those in our Privacy Policy.

Your voice audio is held only in memory during the round-trip and is never written to disk or retained. Only the transcript is saved, on the resulting expense, so you can see what was heard. Delete the expense and the transcript goes with it.

This list can change

As we improve the product we may add, remove, or swap a provider. When that happens we update this page and §5.2 of the Privacy Policy, which together are the authoritative current list. Material changes to who processes your data also re-trigger the in-app consent screen, so you are asked again before any new provider receives your data.

Accuracy and liability

AI output is informational and can be wrong. Settl turns what you say or photograph into a suggested expense; you are responsible for reviewing every entry before you rely on it to settle up, pay, or take any other action. To the maximum extent permitted by law, the Services and any AI-generated output are provided "as is," and Settl is not liable for any loss or damage arising from your use of the Services or from reliance on that output. Turning it off

The AI features are optional. You can run the whole app by typing expenses in by hand, and you can turn cloud AI off at any time in You → Privacy & AI. With it off, the mic, receipt scan, and assistant are disabled and nothing is sent to any AI provider. For the plain-language walkthrough, see the Privacy FAQ.
