Start with the original amount.

Create a trip group.
Add the people sharing the trip and choose a useful group currency. Keep each person’s name consistent so it is easy to check who paid and who owes.

Log the currency with every expense.
Say “I paid 90 euros for dinner,” rather than just “90.” Keep EUR 90 as the original amount even when your group is tracking a different currency.

Review conversions before settling.
Settl supports converted balances and retains original amounts. Check the rate and currency shown in the app. Your bank or payment service can use a different exchange rate or charge fees.

Record the payback after it happens.
Use the agreed amount and currency when recording a settlement. A settlement record tracks a payment you made separately; it does not send money.
A conversion you can verify.
Suppose a €90 dinner is split equally among three people. Each share is €30. At an illustrative rate of €1 = S$1.50, the total is S$135 and each share is S$45.
The rate here is chosen for simple arithmetic, not a live exchange-rate quote. Check the actual rate and settlement currency in your group.

Can I add different currencies to one trip?
Yes. Record the currency on each expense and check original and converted figures in the app.
Does Settl perform the bank transfer?
No. Pay through your chosen service, then record the actual payback.
Can I guarantee everyone pays the same bank rate?
No. Payment providers, fees and timing can change the amount received. Agree on the settlement amount and currency first.
