Common questions

How does the voice feature work?

Tap the mic and say what happened — for example, "I paid 80 for dinner, split with Sarah and Mike." Settl sends the recording to its servers, where AI turns your sentence into a structured expense — who paid, how much, who's involved, which currency — and the result appears on screen for you to confirm or tweak.

Because the audio is processed in the cloud, the voice feature needs an internet connection. See our privacy policy for what we collect and how it's handled.

A balance or expense looks wrong, or didn't show up

A few things to try first: pull down to refresh the screen, check that you have a steady internet connection, and confirm the expense was saved to the right group. If you just added something by mistake, you can undo it from the activity feed.

If a balance still looks off, email hello@settl.fyi with the group name and what you expected to see — that's the fastest way for us to dig in.

I can't sign in or access my account

Settl signs you in with Apple or Google. Make sure you're using the same method and email address you used when you first created your account — signing in a different way can create a separate, empty account.

Is Settl free? What about pricing?

Yes. Adding and splitting expenses by hand — typing who paid, who owes, and settling up — is free for everyone, always. That's the heart of Settl, and it will never sit behind a paywall.

Settl's standout features use AI: speaking an expense out loud, scanning a receipt, and asking questions like "how much did I spend on food this month?" These cost us money to run, so they may become part of a paid plan in the future. As a thank-you to our earliest supporters, our first 1,000 users get those AI features free* too — even after we introduce paid plans.

There are no paid plans in the app today. If we add paid features later, we'll always be clear about what they cost before you're charged.

*Free AI-feature access for our first 1,000 users is subject to fair-usage limits and our Terms of Service, which govern the offer and may be updated.

How do I delete my account and data?

You can request deletion from inside the app (in your profile) or by email. Full steps, and exactly what we delete or keep, are on our account & data deletion page.
