Delete your account & personal data
This page is for users of Settl, the expense-splitting app — the same app name shown on our Google Play store listing — published by Settl Labs (the developer name on that listing). Below are the steps to request account deletion and what happens to your data.
Steps to request account deletion
Follow either path below (you only need one). We must verify that the request comes from you.
Option A — Email (works without the app)
- Send email from your Sign-in address Use the same email address you use to sign in to Settl (e.g. your Apple or Google account email). That is how we confirm ownership.
- Address it to Settl Labs Send to hello@settl.fyi.
- Use a clear subject line Example: Account and data deletion request — Settl

Include these details in the body
• Your display name as shown in Settl
• Confirmation that you want your Settl account and associated personal data deleted
• If you ever used a different email with us, mention it so we can locate your account - Wait for our reply We respond with confirmation or follow-up questions. Deletion processing begins after verification.

- Open Settl on your Android device.
- Go to You (profile tab).
- Tap Delete account and confirm.
- Check email — we may contact hello@settl.fyi from you or reply from us to confirm before completing deletion.
What data we delete or anonymise
After your identity is verified, we delete or irreversibly anonymise personal data tied to your account, typically within 30 days of confirmation unless a longer hold applies (see retention below). This generally includes:
Removed or anonymised
- Your Settl profile (display name, email linkage, optional photo)
- Authentication identifiers associated only with your account
- Your app preferences and notification tokens
- Your memberships in groups (your participation link)
- Activity and audit rows that identify you personally, where feasible
- Optional attachments keyed only to you (e.g. voice clips / receipts), where technically separable
May be kept (limited)
- Shared ledger facts — Expenses or settlements that other people rely on may remain as non-identifying or aggregated entries so their balances stay accurate (your name is removed or replaced where possible).
- Legal / safety — Minimal records if we must retain them for fraud prevention, security incidents, tax, or regulatory obligations.
- Aggregates — Statistics that cannot reasonably identify you.
Retention periods
- Standard completion: most personal data tied to your account is deleted or anonymised within 30 days after we verify your request.
- Backups: residual encrypted backups may persist up to approximately 90 days before rolling off.
- Legal holds: if law or an active dispute requires retention, we keep only what is necessary for as long as required, then delete or anonymise.
- Third-party processors (e.g. hosting, analytics): deletion propagates according to their schedules; we instruct them to delete your data when our agreement allows.
